State Visit to Japan by Their Majesties the King and the Queen of the Belgians

Their Majesties the King and the Queen of the Belgians conducted a State Visit to Japan upon the official invitation from Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan from 11 until 14 October 2016. They arrived in Japan on the 10th and stayed until the 15th, making maximum use of their time to promote the excellent political, business, cultural and academic relations between our countries. The King and the Queen were accompanied by a large and varied delegation of more than 200 officials, business CEOs and university presidents. The Minister-Presidents of the Flemish, Brussels, Walloon and French Community Governments also joined, as well as the Federal Secretary of State for Foreign Trade.
The visit underlined the close relations between the Belgian Royal and Japanese Imperial Families. Their Majesties were received by the Emperor and Empress for a State Banquet at the Imperial Palace and They were invited on a cultural excursion to the city of Yuki where the Royal and Imperial Couples were received very warmly by the local population. The King and the Queen also met with the Prime Minister of Japan and Mrs Shinzo Abe who hosted a dinner for them and a large number of delegates at the Akasaka Palace.
